Can I Edit an Automatically Recorded Driving Event in My Logs?

No. Automatically recorded driving events are locked by FMCSA regulation — you cannot modify the status, start time, or end time. You can only attach a note for context.

No. When the ELD automatically records a Driving event — triggered by the vehicle exceeding 5 mph — that entry is locked by FMCSA regulation. You cannot change the duty status, start time, end time, or location of an auto-recorded driving event.

Why Auto-Recorded Events Are Locked

The FMCSA requires ELDs to generate tamper-resistant records of driving activity. Auto-recorded Driving events are created directly from the vehicle's engine data (ECM), which makes them a legally protected record. Allowing drivers or carriers to modify these entries would undermine the integrity of the electronic log. See how the ELD triggers driving mode for details on how these events are captured.

What You Can Do

Although the event itself cannot be changed, you can attach a note or annotation to an auto-recorded Driving event to provide context. This is useful if, for example, the vehicle was moved by someone else while your name was on the log. See how to add a note or annotation to a log event for the steps.

What About Incorrectly Assigned Driving Time?

If driving time was auto-recorded under your account but should have been attributed to another driver (a co-driver situation), this is handled through the driving time reassignment process — not by editing the event directly. See how to reassign driving time to a co-driver for details.

For editable log entries — such as manually entered duty status changes — see how to edit driver HOS logs.
