You'll need the Vehicle ID, make, model, year, license plate number, issuing state, and fuel type (diesel is the default and can be changed later).
Before you open the Fleet Portal to add a vehicle, gather the following details. Entering everything at once is faster than pausing the form to look up information mid-way through.
Fields Required in the Fleet Portal
The vehicle form asks for: - **Vehicle ID** — the unit number or identifier your company uses for this truck (e.g., "Truck 07" or "Unit 14"). This is an internal label, not a government-issued number. - **Make** — the manufacturer of the truck (e.g., Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner). - **Model** — the specific model name (e.g., 389, T680, Cascadia). - **Year** — the model year of the vehicle. - **License Plate Number** — the plate displayed on the vehicle. - **Issuing State** — the U.S. state that issued the plate. - **Fuel Type** — the default is Diesel; you can change this if the vehicle runs on a different fuel type.
Vehicle ID vs. Other Identifiers
The Vehicle ID is not the same as the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). It's simply the label your fleet uses to refer to this truck internally. You can use a number, a name, or whatever matches your existing tracking system.
After Adding the Vehicle
Once the vehicle is saved, the ELD device can be paired with it. See the full ELD installation guide for next steps, including connecting the ELD hardware and setting up the driver's app.
If you're an owner-operator adding your own truck for the first time, see how to set up both the fleet and driver account at once to save time during setup.
