The app requires Location (always-on), Camera (for QR code scanning), and Notifications to function correctly. Without always-on location, the ELD cannot accurately record driving events.
The Route One ELD driver app requires three phone permissions to function correctly. Without all three, the app may fail to record driving events, connect to the ELD device, or deliver compliance notifications.
Location — Always On
This is the most critical permission. The app requires Location set to "Always" (not just "While Using") because the ELD records your location at duty status changes and may need to log data while the screen is off or the app is in the background.
If Location is set to "While Using" only, the ELD may miss location data during driving, which can create gaps in your log and trigger compliance warnings.
Camera
Required for scanning the QR code on the ELD device during initial setup. See how to connect the ELD device via QR code or manually. If you enter the serial number manually instead, Camera is still needed for future device pairing.
Notifications
Required so the app can alert you to pending log certification requests, driving time reassignment requests, fleet manager log edit suggestions, and other time-sensitive actions. Disabling notifications means you may miss required responses.
How to Grant Permissions
On **iOS**: go to Settings → Route One ELD → set Location to "Always," and enable Camera and Notifications. On **Android**: go to Settings → Apps → Route One ELD → Permissions → enable Location (set to "Allow all the time"), Camera, and Notifications.
If the app prompts you for permissions on first launch, grant all three at that time.
